Wind-wave forecasting in enclosed basins using statistically downscaled global wind forcing

Accurate wind-wave forecasting in enclosed and semi-enclosed basins is a challenging task, demanding primarily for high-resolution wind forcing at regional scale. This generally obtained with dynamical downscaling from low-to-mid resolution atmospheric model. In this context, new wave system the marginal Adriatic Sea herein presented aimed proposing an alternative strategy accurate (semi-) that does not require ad-hoc The based on state-of-the-art WAVEWATCH III ® spectral model forced by global IFS-ECMWF forecast. At first, speed quantile-corrected to account systematic underestimation over Sea. Then, significant height target region regimes associated marine storms calibrated following standard procedure.
